Adrean Newton Jr. - 6'0 Point Guard - Maury High School

Adrean Newton Jr. is one of the top names in the Gotham Prospects database as a 2025 point guard out of Maury High School in the 757 area. He’s due for a strong junior season after leading the Commodores to a 20-6 record and 13-1 in region action in 2022-23.

The Commodores came up short in VHSL Class 5 Tournament Semifinals against eventual state champion Woodside High this past season but with the lightning-quick exploits of Newton back this upcoming season, he’s got star power in the making following a productive spring/summer.

Newton is a playmaking lead guard who can play with a ton of effort on both ends of the floor. He’s a wiry backcourt prospect who isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty in the painted area and rebound the ball. As he continues to develop and add strength to his frame, his development will be fun to track.

He enters his junior year with offers already from Ohio University and Elizabeth City State given his ability to operate off the bounce, touch the paint and make things happen at the point guard role. He’s got tremendous decision-making ability as a finisher and passer as he looks to turn a corner on the varsity stage.

The way he operates on both ends of the floor is fun to watch. He brings the energy on defense and doesn’t hesitate to find openings as a perimeter threat or playmaker to get his team going. He can fill up the stat sheet in a variety of ways and has the potential to average a double-double scoring and passing the ball this season for Maury High after earning first-team All-District honors this past year.

As he continues to build his resume on the hardwood, look for his name to grow in the database as a MM DI prospect. He grew on the HGSL stage with Team Loaded 757 on the grassroots scene with his exploits as an all-around lead guard who can operate in a variety of ways. He’s a name to keep an eye on out of Virginia this high school season.
