Gotham Prospects Progress Report: 2025 Point Guard Adrean Newton Jr.

The Maury Commodores are 17-4 with the regular season coming to a close and boast a 10-2 record in the Eastern region as they look to contend in the VA Division 5 State Title picture. Floor general Adrean Newton Jr. is a Gotham Prospect with room to grow and show that he’s ready to make a name for himself.

He’s done well in leading the Commodores to 17 victories so far and continues to make strides in showing why he should be considered a top point guard in Virginia’s 2025 class.

He stepped up in a big way in their 63-60 overtime victory over Lake Taylor back on Jan. 31, posting 10 points, six assists and six steals. To kick off the month of February, Newton showed he could be an effective presence on the defensive end once against with six steals and a block to go along with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds in a victory over Manor High.

The 6-foot-1 point guard knows how to fill up the stat sheet. He had 16 points (two made 3’s), five rebounds, three assists and three steals in leading the way for the Commodores as they won their fifth-straight game with a victory over Norcom on Jan. 12. In their victory before that, he filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, six assists, six steals and four rebounds against Manor, showing off his ability to be a menace on both ends of the floor.

In a victory over Churchland back on Jan. 15, he filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Newton is producing 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals per contest and certainly a name for college programs of all levels to get eyes on. He’s shown he can fill up the stat sheet and defend the basketball at a high level as evidenced by their recent victories.
