⚡ Kenyon Giles: Lightning in a Bottle in the Big South ⚡
Radford University sophomore Kenyon Giles is due for a breakout season in 2023-24.
Player Profile
Kenyon Giles | 5’9 Guard | Radford Highlanders | Sophomore
As a freshman for the Radford Highlanders, Kenyon Giles was all about his business in the Big South. In his debut, he averaged 8.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on his way to earning Big South All-Freshman team honors. He was named Big South Freshman of the Week six times during 2022-23, appearing in all 36 games along with making six starts. He ranked third on the team this past season in 3-pointers made with 45 and looks ready to emerge as lightning in a bottle for the Highlanders as they look to turn a corner in the conference.
In Year 2, Giles will have the ball in his hands a lot more, which won’t bode too well for opposing guards in the conference. Last year, Giles dropped a career-high 21 points back on VMI on Dec. 10. Radford fans should get used to him scoring a lot more than that this upcoming season as a ton of buzz surrounds his return as a sophomore.
As he’s gotten more confident with the ball, he’s become lethal off the bounce especially when he gets his mid-range game going. He’s not a player who jacks up a lot of threes and utilizes his athleticism well to get by defenders and make things happen as a finisher in the paint and a playmaking wizard who can find teammates in a hurry for points.
He’s a shifty 5-foot-11 guard whose confidence continues to build in a Highlanders backcourt that also returns DaQuan Smith and Bryan Antoine. With a lot more responsibility on offense and an effectiveness for being efficient in the painted area, look for Giles to have a breakout year in 2023-24 so long as he can remain healthy.
Another name that Giles should bring along with him is freshman Trenton Walters. He’s a native of Frisco, Texas, who attended La Lumiere School this past season. He averaged 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 50 percent shooting from deep on the NIBC stage. Look for him to get some minutes at the backup point guard role.
Take a look at some highlights from Giles heading into 2023-24.
