Terry Sanford Girls Basketball Prime for Another Run

Led by their trio of 2025 Breonna Roaf, 2026 Ameya Brown and 2027 Jaidiah Blake, the Terry Sanford Lady Bulldogs look prime for another run at the NCHSAA 3A State Championship in North Carolina.

The Terry Sanford Lady Bulldogs went 26-6 (14-0 3A/4A All-American Conference) under first-year head coach Chris Goodman in 2023-24 and it’s clear from their run to the state title game, that something special is brewing in Fayetteville.

The Lady Bulldogs went 12-1 at home, 12-1 on the road and played a gritty neutral schedule which saw them go 3-4 under Coach Goodman. One of those losses came to 4A NCHSAA State Champion Rolesville High, another to Camden High (SC), who won the Class AAA SCHSL State Championship, and another to Rutgers Prep (NJ).

Needless to say, a “championship” schedule was built and 2024-25 will be no different. The Lady Bulldogs will face another gauntlet of tough squads as they look to win a state championship.

Look out for CPBree!

2025 point guard Breonna Roaf aka CPBree is a menacing presence at the point guard spot who continues to impress with her growth on the hardwood, especially defensively. She’s an on-ball menace for the entire 94 feet and unselfish in getting her teammates involved.

The 5-foot-7 point guard put up 14.0 points, 7.3 assists, 6.8 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game in 2023-24 and took home the Most Outstanding Player Award in their loss to West Rowan in the 3A State Championship with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

She’s shown off an ability to fill up the stat sheet in a variety of ways and this fall season, she’s playing with a lot more energy, especially defensively. With her leading the charge for the Lady Bulldogs, it’s going to be “scary” season for opponents heading into her senior year.

Ameya Brown & Jaidiah Blake are next up for the Lady Bulldogs

It’s only a matter of time before a college program cashes in on the services of 2025 point guard Breonna Roaf. It’s hard to believe Ameya Brown is only a junior and Jaidiah Blake is just a sophomore heading into another season.

Brown is one of those “big things come in small packages” as a 5-foot-4 guard prospect who flies around for steals and blocks with an ability to knock down shots from behind the arc. She complements Breonna Roaf well in the backcourt with her presence defensively and her speed on the fastbreak.

Brown produced 12.7 points, 3.5 steals, 2.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game with the Lady Bulldogs as a sophomore. She knocked down 66 3-pointers on 27 percent shooting from deep, but with more development and focus on efficiency, look for both numbers to improve in 2024-25.

Blake, on the other hand, is a utility knife on the floor at 5-foot-9, capable of cleaning up the glass, locking things up defensively and another emerging perimeter presence in the 2027 class in North Carolina. She posted 10.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.6 steals per game as another prospect who’s shown she can fill up the stat sheet on the floor. She finished with 10 double-doubles in her varsity debut and looks prime to do a whole lot more as her development continues to trend upwards.

The Lady Bulldogs aren’t just a three-deep squad, either. They also return sophomores Amya Harrington and Nina Spraggins in the frontcourt and sophomore Zaniya Reddick and senior Taleah Meadows in the backcourt. Don’t doubt them adding young talent who can contribute right away in the 2028 class, either.

Harrington is a 2027 prospect to keep an eye on after posting 8.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in her varsity debut. She’s shown she can be a presence in the painted area with her size at 6-foot-3. Spraggins got some experience under her belt in 2023-24 wih 28 appearances in 2023-24 and should be prime for more minutes in 2024-25.

Reddick appeared in all 32 games in 2023-24, finishing with 4.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.3 assists per contest as a freshman.

Meadows appeared in 22 games in 2023-24, averaging 1.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She’ll contribute to their success on the rebounding front once again in her senior year as a leader.

Depth is the name of the game for the Lady Bulldogs in 2024-25. Last year, it seemed like they ran out of juice as West Rowan’s experience took over in the second half. They outscored the Lady Bulldogs 37-23 in the half to make it back-to-back 3A State Championships.

“We’ll be back,” Coach Goodman said after last year’s tough defeat and given their recent victory in the 9Dime Girls Fall League Championship, it looks like he may be right.
