Welcome to Scoop's World: Deshawn Spellman!
Meet Deshawn Spellman, a 6-foot-7, athletic wing prospect of out Hopewell High in Virginia's 2026 class, the latest addition to the Scoop's World platform!
Deshawn Spellman is a rising star in the state of Virginia’s 2026 class. He’s a 6-foot-7 wing/forward prospect who has shown off his athleticism in a variety of ways this season with Hopewell High. He’s got the Blue Devils playing well in the Central Region currently at 7-0 and 11-1 overall on the year.
Mid-major DI programs would be wise to get him on their radar. Hampton, Old Dominion, Morehead State, Radford, Norfolk State and College of Charleston are a few of the offers he holds already heading into the mid-season point with Hopewell High.
Spellman is a wiry prospect who has some versatility given his skill set on the floor. He’s fresh off a 25-point and 4-rebound outing this past Friday which saw him lead Hopewell to a 67-54 victory over Thomas Dale. He showed off his efficiency in that one, going 11-of-15 from the field. Spellman also recorded a block and an assist in the victory.

He leads the way in scoring (19.5 points per game) and blocks (1.0 blocks per game) along with production of 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He’s shown he can fill up the stat sheet in a number of ways to make his presence felt on the hardwood. He’s shooting 60 percent from the field and 38 percent (18-of-48) from 3-point land as he continues his surging junior year of production.
He’s got tremendous length he utilizes well to navigate through defenses on the break and in the halfcourt to attack the rim. He’s coming along on the perimeter as a shooting threat and it’s shown in his numbers in 2024-25. His ability to create matchup problems on the fly are an asset for a college program at the next level.
His ability to get the free throw line should be noted as well. In his best outing, he put up 26 points against Meadowbrook High, finishing 8-of-11 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw stripe. As he shows he can get free points at the line, look for his status to continue to grow in Virginia’s 2026 class.
The Blue Devils have won five games in a row heading into their next game against Prince George (1-13) this Friday. Make sure to check in with Spellman and crew soon!
